NZPFU members urged to support striking Ambulance Officers tomorrow

All off-duty NZPFU members are urged to support striking Ambulance Officers tomorrow at actions planned in the main centres.

The strike action is proceeding tomorrow morning and four actions have been planned in Auckland, Palmerston North, Christchurch and Invercargill. Our members see first-hand the dire shortage of Hato Hone St John ambulance career officers with FENZ firefighters responding to approximately 98% of all out-of-hospital-cardiac arrest and medical response calls rising every year.

NZPFU members are urged to support First Union and Ambulance Association (NZAA) members in their bid for safe staffing which requires reasonable pay. NZPFU members are asked to wear NZPFU branded t-shirts/sweatshirts and take flags and banners to the protests. These events will be the key actions for media and public attention.

Locations of tomorrow's actions:

  1. AUCKLAND - 12.00pm at Mt Wellington, St John station (Corner of Harrison Road and Ellerslie Panmure Highway, Mount Wellington, Auckland)
  2. CHRISTCHURCH - 08:00am, Outside St John Hub on Winchcombe Street (Borders South City Mall, 9 Winchcombe Street, Christchurch Central City, Christchurch)
  3. INVERCARGILL - 08:00am - 10:00am Corner Tay St and Elles Road, Invercargill
  4. PALMERSTON NORTH - 15:00pm - 18:00pm at the Ruahine / Tremaine intersection (Roslyn, Palmerston North)

NZPFU members cannot be required or compelled to change the way they perform medical response in order to undertake the work of the striking ambulance officers. NZPFU members are only to be deployed and respond to medical response calls as they are now.
