At a meeting of the Auckland Local Committee on 10th August the following resolution was passed.
“The Auckland Local Committee recommends to members that they do not sell the twelve Special Leave days, as per the current Collective Agreement, back to the employer.”
The reasoning behind this recommendation is that the whole intent of the Holidays Act legislation is to ensure that workers receive an appropriate number of days off in any year, and that to sell these additional days goes against the intent of the said Act.
It could also be seen by the employer, as a reason to refuse to consider any future claim for additional leave, as the employees do not take the days off that are already provided to them under law.
