Tuesday 9 July will mark 25 years since Firefighter Jim Hughes from Birkenhead Station was tragically killed on-duty on Auckland’s Northern Motorway.

Waitemata Fire Area and Gold Watch Firefighters will be organising a remembrance ceremony for Jim, to be held on the day at Birkenhead Station beginning at 0930.

This will be a chance to mix and mingle, followed by a morning tea and a chance for colleagues to catch up and remember Jim.

Any past or present firefighters who knew Jim and would like to attend the ceremony, can you please RSVP to Svetlana Kostakova from the Waitemata Fire Area Office.

We ask on-duty SSO’s that, subject to operational requirements, can they please manage appliance movements to allow those members on duty that wish to attend, to do so.
