The members of the Fire Brigades Union of United Kingdom, especially in the Merseyside brigade have once again come under attack from their employer. Their employer has proposed 10% job cuts and reductions in fire cover.

The National Committee of the New Zealand Professional Firefighters Union met today to consider the action being taken against our brother members in the United Kingdom and unanimously passed the following resolution.

“The National Committee of the New Zealand Professional Firefighters Union, on behalf of all members of the Union pledges their full support for our Brothers in the United Kingdom, especially in the Merseyside Brigade, in their current dispute with their employer. We find the concept of reduction in job numbers, the reduction in fire cover and the resulting increased risk to our firefighter brothers and the communities they serve totally untenable.
In Unity there is Strength.”
