DAY NINE - Taking the campaign from end to end of NZ

Alex Forrest’s commitment to achieving presumptive legislation to recognise firefighters’ occupational cancer is seeing him travel the length of NZ.

An early flight was well worth it with Invercargill Local’s wonderful hospitality including a famous Southland cheese roll and quick trip to Bluff for the obligatory photo.

Then it was a full house for the station visit with about 40 members making the most of the opportunity to hear Alex detail the scientific basis for presumptive legislation, and the necessary occupational hygiene measures to minimise the impact of exposures to toxins.

Return to Work Duties

We have been told that staff wanting to do Return to Work Duties will have to do them at District HQ and they do not intend to reimburse your travel costs, “you are getting an enhanced pay and you can fund your own travel”. We have since got an agreement that the travel distance reimbursement will be paid for travel to District HQ.


Union calls for Operational Review into Devastating House Fire

Following a devastating house fire in Milldale north of Auckland yesterday the Local has written to the Acting National Commander formally asking for Fire and Emergency to undertake an operational review.
