In reference to the National Notice to Members published on 28 January 2024 regarding Blood Screening Programme for NZPFU Members - Firefighters, Trainers and Fire Investigators.

The Auckland Local is working to engage a small number of clinics across Tamaki Makaurau to provide this service.

Members considering Income Protection Insurance should sign up to a provider before making an appointment for a “New Zealand Professional Firefighters Union Medical Review”.

The intention of engaging with a small number of clinics is to ensure that the doctors and nurses conducting the testing understand the increased health risks to Firefighters, Trainers and Fire Investigators and respond early to any indicators.

Factors that we are considering are:

  • Clinics at central, north, west and south locations
  • Streamlined process and when they are able to begin
  • Parking / public transport
  • Option for male and female doctors
  • 30 day invoice
  • Confidentiality
  • Ongoing annual recall

A small number of Union Representatives are personally vetting the clinics. Once this process is completed, we will be in a position to make recommendations.  The individuals and Union do not benefit from this arrangement in any way.
