Ban – C.F.B.T. – Heat Source

The Union has put a proposition to the Fire Service that would enable the Ban to be lifted.

The Proposal is:

Receipt of written Protocols/Hazard Management Plan to provide for as a minimum –

a) Use of Low Emission Board;
b) All P.P.E. (including flashhoods) to be laundered or replaced after each exposure;
c) Limit exposure in container to 30 minutes per day, where practicable ‐ Protocol to demonstrate how this will be done and log book kept;
d) No eating/drinking etc. in contaminated P.P.E.;
e) Ongoing health monitoring for Instructors e.g. base‐line testing (blood etc.) and regular re‐ testing. Protocols to detail.

Half of the funds donated will be contributed to the Community Fund being administered by the Grey District Council and half will be used to establish a dedicated fund for the education of the children of those killed. The Trustees will be local union members.

Members should be aware that District Manager Mackereth has unilaterally made the decision to remove the Hazmat Command Appliance from immediate response to confirmed structure fire incidents for incidents in Auckland City Central Fire District.
