Firefighters throughout Auckland will support locked out Ports of Auckland workers on their picket line today.

NZ Professional Firefighters Union, Auckland Local President Mike McEnaney says firefighters want to show their support and solidarity for port workers who are currently struggling in an effort to settle their collective contract.

McEnaney says firefighters themselves have an employer who is not prepared to settle a contract on a collective basis, so are well aware of what the struggling port workers are going through.

“Clearly if employers are unwilling to settle fair and reasonable contracts then it is evident that there is a need for other workers to get in behind and show their support and that is the intention of the Auckland firefighters” said McEnaney.
